What to support?

Lately we have been supporting a lot of different charities, just based on what is asked of us. But next year, we would like to be a bit more strategic about it. We would like to support one main charity in a bigger way. There are two main options: 1. supporting digestive diseases. 2. supporting a charity that helps girls and women.

Why these two?

1. The company was started to provide snacks for people with digestive issues. That is why the bars are easily digested and have no milk or gluten. they are also low in fat and sugar which can upset the stomach. We have a strong and personal connection to digestive causes- particularly Crohn’s and Colitis.

However, our main sales are now to people (mainly women) who want to be healthy and maintain their weight. They want a low fat, low calorie snack that fills them up and keeps them full. No empty unhealthy calories. So our second choice for a chairty is:

2. supporting a charity that supports girls and women. The charities with the most appeal are those that provide opportunities for growth and improvement. A literacy foundation would be a great fit. Or a charity like Dress For Success which gives women outfits for job interviews.

Anyhow, would love to hear your comments. The best comment on the blog will get a free box of bars.

I started eating the bars for nutrition reasons…they are gluten and dairy free and I needed more protein. I’m trying to live a healthier lifestyle which is hard with many dietary restrictions. As much as donating to the Crohn’s and Colitis foundation would be good…other charities/non-profits like Sheena’s Place are great organizations which help people with eating disorders.

While I think both types of charity support are awesome and see where it would be hard to choose, I think the option I would personally go with is the second. My reasoning behind this is the sentence in your post: “our main sales are now to people (mainly women) who want to be healthy and maintain their weight.” Since your main sales are to women, I think it makes sense to give back to the demographic that is supporting your product the most.

I love that you developed your bar to cater to specific diets (gluten free, vegan, etc) but what I love more is that your bars have great nutrition statistics for someone like me. I am not vegan nor gluten free, but I aim to balance out my protein and carbohydrate grams each day. I try to avoid artificial ingredients. I am working to maintain my weight. Your bar supports all of the above. I believe that because of these things, your bar is very popular among the health minded women out there.

My 2 cents :) Have a great weekend!
